This Crucifix was carved by a “santero” wood carver, in Puerto Rico. Carvers were common people whose only purpose was to express their Catholic faith by carving and painting the figures of their devotion. They painted the santos using common paint. Today, we can not find many santeros and it is hard to find old santos. Nowadays, it is a collectors item and they are appreciated as a historical art form.
